Mathematics Scholarships

For Entering Freshmen

  • Evelyn Maxwell Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU incoming freshman mathematics education major in the top 33% of his/her graduating class and provide a letter of recommendation from his/her high school mathematics teacher. Preference will be given to applicant with financial need. (Application)
  • Lawrence E. and Crystal Pummill Scholarship* - Student must receive a first place individual award in the Pummill Math Relays. Preference is given to mathematics education majors.  (Application)
  • Math Relays Scholarship* - Student must be an outstanding participant in an individual event in the Pummill Math Relays.  (Application)
  • Mathematics Freshman Scholarship - Student must be a declared MSU mathematics or mathematics education major who is eligible to take Calculus I or higher.  Preference will be given to a student with a minimum 3.0 GPA in high school mathematics.  (Application)
  • Mathematics Is Fun Scholarship - Student must be a mathematics or mathematics education major. Consideration will be given primarily to academic aptitude.  (Application)

For Entering Transfers

  • Evelyn Maxwell Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU or first-year transfer mathematics education major with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and has successfully completed beginning level math courses.  Preference will be given to applicant with financial need. (Application)
  • Mathematics Transfer Scholarship - Student must be a declared MSU mathematics or mathematics education major who is eligible to take Calculus I or higher.  Preference will be given to a student with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.  (Application 

For Undergraduates

  • Alex Cramer Memorial Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics major for the purpose of teaching mathematics. Student must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA in mathematics.
  • American National Property and Casualty Actuary/Insurance Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU student who has completed at least 24 hours prior to receiving the scholarship with a minimum 2.75 GPA. Must major in mathematics (actuary emphasis) with a minor in insurance and risk management OR major in insurance and risk management with a minor in mathematics. Preference will be given to students who are currently enrolled or have completed math courses in the actuarial studies area, and who are currently enrolled or have completed at least one course leading to a major or minor in insurance/risk management. Additional preference will be given to students who have completed one or more national examinations leading to a professional designation, with actuarial examinations being given the priority over other exams.
  • Carl Fronabarger Memorial Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics major for the purpose of teaching mathematics. Junior or senior must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and a minimum 3.5 GPA in mathematics.
  • Carol L. (Harless) Stephens Scholarship for Math Teachers* - Student must be a full-time MSU junior or senior mathematics education major with a minimum 3.0 cumulative and in mathematics.  Awards will be made with regard for financial need.
  • Ed Huffman Mathematics Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU sophomore or above mathematics (including pre-engineering) or mathematics education major with a minimum 2.5 GPA in mathematics. Recipient must have completed the first calculus course required for the major.
  • E. Howard and Thelma F. Matthews Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics education major with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.  Awards will be made with regard for financial need.
  • Jim Downing Mathematics Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics or mathematics education major with a minimum 2.5 GPA in mathematics.
  • Kappa Mu Epsilon Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics or mathematics education major with a minimum 3.0 GPA in mathematics. Must also be a KME member.
  • Lawrence E. and Crystal Pummill Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU sophomore or above mathematics major with a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in mathematics. Preference is given to those preparing to teach mathematics.
  • Louis O. and Minnie M. Smith Scholarship* - Student must be full-time MSU mathematics major who has indicated an interest in pursuing a career in teaching mathematics.
  • Mathematics Department Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics or mathematics education major with with satisfactory academic progress in mathematics.
  • Mathematics Emeritus Professors Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics or mathematics education major with a minimum 3.0 GPA in mathematics.
  • Mathematics Is Fun Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics or mathematics education major with a 3.5 overall GPA.
  • Teacher Education Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics education major with a minimum 2.75 GPA in mathematics.
  • Thomas Shiflett Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics major for the purpose of teaching mathematics. Student must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA in mathematics.
  • William "Bill" Sutherlin Math Education Scholarship - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics education major with a minimum 3.0 GPA in mathematics.
  • Woodrow Sun Mathematics Scholarship* - Student must be a full-time MSU mathematics or mathematics education major with a minimum 2.5 GPA in mathematics.
