MS Two-Year Degree Plan

You can choose from our department’s broad offerings in mathematics and receive one-on-one attention from well-trained faculty, most of whom hold doctorates in their field. The traditional Master of Science in Mathematics degree allows you to earn a graduate degree in about two years.

Sample schedule

This is a model two-year degree plan. Your path to graduation may vary based on factors such as transfer credit you earned while in other institutions, any deficiencies, graduate assistantship assignments, and your work on research. This degree program can be completed in four semesters. Visit with your advisor to develop a plan that is right for you.

To fulfill the requirements for a Master of Science in Mathematics, you must complete two 700-level courses and at least one of the following four courses:

• MTH 702 Real and Abstract Analysis
• MTH 722 Theory of Ordinary Differential Equations II
• MTH 732 Abstract Algebra II
• MTH 742 Statistical Inference II

If this requirement is fulfilled, you may take elective courses instead. Electives may be at the 600-level.

You may count up to 6 hours of research toward the degree.
