Dual Credit

High school students interested in dual credit math courses

Several Missouri State math courses may be taken while you are still in high school, earning you dual credit!

These courses include: MTH 130, MTH 134, MTH 136, MTH 137, MTH 138, MTH 261 and MTH 340. Find out more about dual enrollment by visiting Missouri State University Dual Credit.

Eligibility

To be eligible for dual credit, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Junior or senior.
  • 3.0 GPA or higher. Or, 2.5-2.99 GPA, with a recommendation from your principal or guidance counselor.

Course placement options

To be placed into MTH 130, MTH 134, MTH 136, MTH 138 or MTH 340, students need to meet one of the following: 

  • Math ACT exam score of 22 or higher.
  • Appropriate score on the Math Placement exam.
  • “B” or better in Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 with high school teachers’ recommendation.

To be placed into MTH 137, students need to meet one of the following:

  • Math ACT exam score of 25 or higher.
  • Appropriate score on the Math Placement exam.
  • “C” or better in MTH 136.

To be placed into MTH 261, students need to meet one of the following:

  • Math ACT exam score of 28 or higher.
  • Appropriate score on the Math Placement exam.
  • “C” or better in MTH 137 or MTH 138.

MTH dual credit instructor qualifications 

MTH 130, MTH 134, MTH 136, MTH 137, MTH 138, MTH 340

To teach dual credit for the math department, a teacher must satisfy the following:

  • An earned master’s degree in mathematics from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Or, an earned degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with at least 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.

A teacher would be considered for teaching dual credit for the math department if they satisfied the following:

  • An earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with at least 12 graduate credit hours in mathematics. Up to six of the required 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics may be substituted with tested experience. Tested experience is defined as a minimum of seven years of work experience in the field within the previous ten years.
  • An earned master’s degree in mathematics education.

A teacher would be considered and possibly placed on a provisional plan of study to teach dual credit for the math department if they satisfied the following:

  • An earned master’s degree with 12 graduate credit hours in mathematics without tested experience.

To teach dual credit MTH 261, a teacher must satisfy the following:

  • An earned master’s degree in mathematics from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. Or, an earned degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with at least 18 graduate credit hours in mathematics.
  • Advanced calculus with a grade of A or B. Or, participated in a professional development related to the teaching of calculus.

A teacher would be considered and possibly placed on a provisional plan of study to teach MTH 261 if they satisfied the following:

  • An earned master’s degree with 18 credit hours in mathematics without the required grade in Advanced Calculus.
