Rules for Pummill Math Relays
- Any student may compete in “Open” events.
- Students compete in “Restricted” and “Team” events only if they are enrolled in the
course associated with that event during the current school year.
- A student may enter a maximum of three events, excluding MathMania and Calculus.
- Each school enters one team of three or four students for each team event and no more
than two students in each individual or restricted event.
- A faculty member must accompany each school to the Relays.
- A student must be entered in the event by the school sponsor.
- Sponsors must clear substitutions electronically, or by phone, by 5:00 p.m. the day
before the event.
- No additional events, or additional participants within an event, may be entered after
the initial registration deadline.
- Participants must use #2 pencils, which will be provided. Participants provide their
own hand-held calculators that may be used in any event.
- There is no penalty for guessing.
- No textbooks or notes are allowed in any testing room. Textbooks and notes are allowed,
however, in rooms where school participants wait for further testing and work on problems
in the Challenging Problems event.
- The school sponsoring anyone (student or teacher) found with a Pummill test taken
from a testing room is disqualified from all Pummill events.
- Missouri State University reserves the right to cancel any event if necessary.
- The deadline for registration is announced on a letter sent to schools each year and
on the Pummill Math Relays website.
