The department of mathematics sponsors four student organizations that focus on professional development, academic excellence and community involvement. Joining one or more of these organizations provides you with leadership and networking opportunities:
- Mathematics Association of America Student Chapter
The MAA is an organization for people who love the mathematical sciences and has been going strong since 1894.
Faculty advisor: Dr. Les Reid - Kappa Mu Epsilon Honor Society
Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) is an honor society in mathematics with the goal of promoting the interest of mathematics among students.
Faculty advisor: Dr. Jorge Rebaza - Southwest Missouri Student Math Teacher Organization – (SM)²TO
This is an organization for students pursuing a career in math education.
Faculty advisor: Dr. Patrick Sullivan - Problem Solving/Undergraduate Research Group
This group, consisting of both students and faculty, gets together once a week to work on problems that come from a variety of mathematical journals (for example, the American Mathematical Monthly, Mathematics Magazine, the College Mathematics Journal and Crux Mathematicorum).
